Every week we enjoy cooking in Junior High. The best part about this weekly learn block is not only are our students learning a valuable life skill, but a peer from Senior High gets to join us and a friend from Secondary comes to help out. This gives us a great opportunity for peer modeling and natural peer interactions. All of our "cooking" is done in the classroom and can be done without a stove. It allows our students to follow instructions and be successful. And when they are done, often they are eager to share their treats with other teachers or staff. This is great! They get a huge sense of pride when they give a treat they made to teacher and the teacher is all excited. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to build their sense of self worth and pride. They get to keep their recipes. Maybe they will even share some with you! We have had english muffin pizzas and oreo rice krispy treats. They are quite good in kitchen!
